"This snapshot of an earlier, more civilized era is being reprised at Jazz at Pearl's in North Beach on this night, in celebration of a new CD by a decidedly modern jazz diva, Sony Holland. Her voice combines the pop- influenced stylings of Nancy Wilson, and the open-throated bell tones of Streisand."  Jane Ganahl, San Francisco Chronicle

"In a corner of Left Coast Wine Bar & Gallery’s cozy second floor, Sony Holland flooded the room with her dipped-in-honey voice and cool, collected attitude on a stress-free Friday night. And in a quaint wine bar, where a few drinks and appetizers were enjoyed on a relaxing Friday night, Glendale gained some serious soul." L.A. Times Music Review by Liana Aghajanian

I have always loved the sophisticated repertoire of the Great American Songbook and Latin bossa nova. With my duo and band I've performed  at jazz festivals and nightclubs from New York to Los Angeles. I spent over a year singing jazz in Tokyo, Bangkok and Hong Kong and was artist in residence at the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriot in San Francisco. Whether it's a festival stage, a romantic lounge or an afternoon performance in the public square vocal jazz still resounds with music lovers young and old.

It's the jazz age all over again in North Beach, where couples dress up to the nines to sit in a bar so dark you have to hold the table candle over the menu to read it, and a sultry chanteuse croons lump-in-the-throat-inducing tunes from a cramped stage, accompanied by a handful of tasty musicians. The steamy air is thick with romance, longing and possibility.

This snapshot of an earlier, more civilized era is being reprised at Jazz at Pearl's in North Beach on this night, in celebration of a new CD by a decidedly modern jazz diva, Sony Holland. Her voice combines the pop- influenced stylings of Nancy Wilson, and the open-throated bell tones of Streisand. "I'd like to be something of a female Tony Bennett," quips a smiling Holland between sets, as she hugs pretty much every single person in Pearl's - - all friends or fans she has grown close to in her relatively short Bay Area tenure. "What a turn-out!" says the Nordic beauty, wide-eyed. "I'm actually pretty amazed. We haven't been in town all that long." cont...
